Vinted description examples, with a template you can copy

Four Vinted description examples you can adapt, a copy-and-paste template, and the title, photo and pricing advice from Vinted's own help centre.

You've listed twenty items on Vinted. A few sold in a day, the rest have a handful of favourites and nothing else. Looking back, the ones that sold had good photos and a clear title. The ones that didn't say "Lovely jacket, worn a few times".

Vinted is mostly second-hand, one-off items, so buyers have to trust the listing more than on a shop site. They can't read reviews of the product, only your words and photos. This guide uses Vinted's own help centre to cover the title and the description, with a template and four Vinted description examples you can adapt, then the photos and price.

The title: brand, item, details

Vinted's advice for titles is short: include specific details about the item, like its brand, colour, type or unique features, and avoid words that don't say how it's different, like "nice", "pretty" or "good" (Vinted help: describing an item). Their own example:

Prefer: New pink Zara mini evening dress

Avoid: Very nice dress

A simple order that works for most clothes is:

Condition (if new) + brand + colour + item type + key detail + size

For example: "Levi's 501 straight jeans, mid blue, W30 L32". Shoppers search for brands and item types, so put those words in the title rather than in the description only. YelloShelf titles follow this order too.

Don't stuff the title with other brand names to catch more searches. Vinted's rules say not to mention or hashtag brands other than the one in the brand field, and listings that do can be hidden or removed.

The description: what buyers need to decide

Vinted says a detailed description makes your listing easier to find and more appealing. It lists what a good one includes:

  • Measurements. Sizes vary a lot between brands, so give the real ones: pit to pit, length, waist, inside leg.
  • Materials beyond the three you can pick in the upload form. Check the care label.
  • Alterations, like repairs or tailoring.
  • Missing labels or parts.
  • Flaws, such as marks, stains, holes, pilling, fading, stretching or smells.
  • For electronics: brand and model, key specs, the plug type, what accessories are included and anything that doesn't work.

Being upfront about flaws isn't just polite. Vinted notes that buyers can ask to return an item if it's significantly different from the listing (Vinted help: uploading step by step). A clear "small mark on the left cuff, see photo 5" saves a dispute later.

A description template

Copy this and fill it in. Delete any line that doesn't apply.

[Brand] [item type] in [colour]. [One sentence on style or fit, e.g. "Relaxed fit, hits at the hip."]

Size: [label size]. Fits like [true to size / small / large]. Measurements (flat): pit to pit [x] cm, length [x] cm, sleeve [x] cm. Material: [from the care label]. Condition: [honest summary]. [Any flaws, with which photo shows them.] [Anything else: alterations, missing belt, original tags attached.]

Smoke-free home. Happy to answer questions.

Keep it short and readable. Buyers on a phone skim, so one fact per line works better than a paragraph.

A good Vinted description answers the questions a buyer would otherwise message you about.

Vinted description examples

Example 1 uses a real brand to show the format. The other brands are made up, and all the measurements are examples.

Example 1: jeans

Title: Levi's 501 straight jeans, mid blue, W30 L32

Levi's 501 straight leg jeans in a mid blue wash. Classic fit, sits at the waist.

Size: W30 L32. Fits true to size. Measurements (flat): waist 39 cm, inside leg 81 cm, rise 29 cm. Material: 100% cotton. Condition: very good. Light wear at the hems, see photo 6.

Example 2: a dress

Title: Harlow Street midi wrap dress, green floral, size 10

Harlow Street wrap dress in a green and cream floral print. Midi length, ties at the waist.

Size: UK 10. Fits true to size, adjustable with the tie. Measurements (flat): pit to pit 47 cm, length 118 cm. Material: 100% viscose. Condition: excellent, worn twice. No marks or pulls.

Example 3: trainers

Title: Fernhall white leather trainers, size UK 7

White leather low-top trainers by Fernhall, with a gum sole.

Size: UK 7 (EU 41). Fit slightly small, best for a 6.5 to 7. Insole length: 26 cm. Condition: good. Creasing across the toes and some wear on the heels, see photos 5 to 7. Cleaned before listing. Original box not included.

Example 4: headphones

For electronics, Vinted asks for the brand and model, the main features, the plug type, the accessories included and anything that's damaged or doesn't work.

Title: Saltmere wireless over-ear headphones, black

Saltmere SH-200 wireless over-ear headphones in black.

Features: Bluetooth, around 20 hours of battery when fully charged (tested), built-in microphone. Charging: USB-C cable included. No wall plug included. Included: headphones, USB-C cable, soft case. Condition: very good. Light scuffing on the headband, see photo 4. Everything works.

Each example starts with what it is, then size, measurements, material and condition, one per line. YelloShelf drafts in the same shape from your photo, so you mostly fill in numbers.

Photos that match the words

Your description and photos should tell the same story. Vinted's photo advice (Vinted help: what photos to upload):

  • Up to 20 photos. More informative photos help buyers trust the listing.
  • First photo: the whole item. No collages.
  • Your own photos only, no stock or watermarked images.
  • Natural daylight, no flash or filters, so the colour is true.
  • Several angles, and close-ups of labels, stitching and important details.
  • Show the flaws you mention in the description.

For well-known brands, Vinted asks for close-ups of details like the labels and logos to help show the item is genuine, plus a proof of purchase, such as a receipt, whenever possible. It also suggests keeping your face out of photos, and using a hanger, a mannequin or a flat lay instead.

Category, brand, condition and price

The fields below the description matter as much as the words:

  • Category: pick the most specific one. Buyers browse and filter by it.
  • Brand: select the real brand, or "No brand" if there isn't one.
  • Condition: choose the true condition. Overstating it is the fastest way to a return.
  • Price: Vinted suggests roughly 60 to 80% of the retail price for new or like-new items, 40 to 60% for very good, and 20 to 40% for good or satisfactory, and says pricing below the catalogue average may help you sell faster (Vinted help: choosing a price). Search for similar items first and see what they're listed at, or start from the price YelloShelf suggests and check it there. Our competitor pricing guide has a method that works on any site.

One rule catches people out: you can't list identical items twice. If you have two of the same thing, make one listing and say how many you have in the description (Vinted help: uploading step by step).

Helping a listing sell

Once the listing is good, Vinted's own suggestions for selling faster are (Vinted help: selling faster):

  • Send offers. If someone favourites an item or asks about it, you can send them an offer.
  • Bundle discounts for buyers who take more than one item.
  • Upload regularly. Your followers are notified when you list a new item or lower a price.
  • Verify your profile and fill in your About me section.
  • Bump is a paid option that shows an item higher in newsfeeds and search results for 3 or 7 days (Vinted help: Bump). Vinted itself suggests updating the price, photos and description before you bump.

A worked example

This is a made-up listing to show the process. "Harlow Street" isn't a real brand.

Before:

  • Title: "Lovely jacket"
  • Description: "Worn a few times, good condition."
  • Photos: two, taken at night, one on a bed.

After:

  • Title: "Harlow Street denim jacket, washed black, oversized, size M"
  • Description: the template above, with pit to pit 58 cm, length 66 cm, 100% cotton, "light fading on the collar, see photo 6", and "fits oversized, best for a size S to M".
  • Photos: eight in daylight. Front, back, the label, the buttons, the inside, the collar fading and two worn shots without a face.

The buyer can now find it by brand, colour and type, see exactly what it looks like and know what they're getting. That's the whole job, and a YelloShelf draft gets you most of the way to that after version.

Quick checklist

  • Title: brand, colour, item type, key detail and size.
  • No vague words like "nice" or "lovely", and no other brand names.
  • Measurements, material and fit in the description.
  • Every flaw described and shown in a photo.
  • First photo the whole item, all photos in daylight.
  • Correct category, brand and condition.
  • Price checked against similar listings.

Write Vinted descriptions with YelloShelf

Writing measurements and descriptions for dozens of items is the slow part, especially if you also sell the same things elsewhere. Our guides to the Depop description template and selling on several platforms cover the differences.

YelloShelf drafts a title and description from your product photo, researched from what's already selling, along with a suggested price you can check against Vinted's own guidance. It can also make social posts for the item, with captions and hashtags for Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Facebook and X. It doesn't post anything to Vinted. You read the draft, add your own measurements and flaws, and paste it in yourself.

No subscription or free trial. Pay as you go credit packs from $10, with a 7-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase.

FAQ

What should I put in a Vinted title?

The specific details a buyer would search for: the brand, colour, item type, a key feature and the size. Vinted's example is "New pink Zara mini evening dress" rather than "Very nice dress".

Can I mention other brands in my Vinted listing?

No. Vinted asks you not to mention or hashtag brands other than the one selected in the brand field, and says listings that do may be hidden or removed.

How many photos can I add on Vinted?

Up to 20. Start with a photo of the whole item, then add different angles, close-ups of labels and details, and photos of any flaws.

Should I mention flaws on Vinted?

Yes, in both the description and the photos. Vinted notes that buyers can ask to return items that are significantly different from the listing, so being clear about flaws protects you.

How should I price items on Vinted?

Search for similar items to see what they're listed at. Vinted's own guide suggests about 60 to 80% of retail for new or like-new, 40 to 60% for very good, and 20 to 40% for good or satisfactory condition.
